Sevres Style Porcelain Teapot

$61.84 $113.17
Description This Sevres style porcelain teapot dates to the late nineteenth century and reflects the continued European fascination with French porcelain design during the period. The teapot is decorated throughout with finely hand painted floral sprays set against a soft mint green ground, framed by detailed gilt borders which highlight the refined proportions of the form. The cylindrical body is richly ornamented with naturalistic flowers painted in delicate polychrome tones including roses, lilies and wild garden blooms, executed in a manner closely associated with Sevres inspired decorative porcelain produced during the second half of the nineteenth century. The painting is carefully balanced across the surface, allowing the decoration to remain light while maintaining strong visual presence. The teapot retains its untouched gilt handle and elegantly formed spout, both finished with warm gilding that complements the painted decoration and upper border work. The domed cover is centred with a gilt finial and decorated with a floral garland, continuing the overall design of the body. The underside is signed and bears etched reference numbers consistent with workshop production of the period. Pieces produced in the Sevres style were highly desirable decorative objects intended for display within refined interiors, drawing direct inspiration from the celebrated French royal manufactory while appealing to the wider European luxury market. A decorative nineteenth century porcelain teapot combining strong display presence with finely executed floral painting, well suited to both collectors of European ceramics and interior placement. Who were SEVRES (MANUFACTURE NATIONALE DE SÈVRES)? Sèvres porcelain, founded in 1740 as the Vincennes manufactory and relocated to Sèvres in 1756, became France’s royal porcelain factory under Louis XV and Madame de Pompadour. Renowned for its innovation, rich colours, and refined decoration, Sèvres produced both soft- and hard-paste porcelain, supplying Europe’s elite and serving as a key diplomatic gift of the French crown.
