$36.69 $59.07
Description Novelty form Timpani Drum Shaped Clock  From our Clocks collection, we are pleased to offer this George Betjemann Novelty Drum Clock, dated 1873. The clock is modelled in the form of a timpani drum raised on a tripod stand above a circular plinth base with a ropework brass border. The drum features a semi-circular body with a silver-plated rear case and brass fittings engraved with foliage motifs, mounted with a pair of drumsticks. The front is fitted with a silvered dial, black enamel Roman numerals, and blued steel hands. The eight-day movement withdraws from the case to allow winding and adjustment of the hands. The reverse is stamped G.B & Sons for George Betjemann & Sons beneath a registration mark dating the piece precisely to 24 April 1873. A fine novelty clock of the Victorian period. George Betjemann & Sons (fl.1810-1910) was a distinguished London-based firm known for producing high-quality dressing cases, writing slopes, and vanity boxes during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Based in Clerkenwell, the company became widely respected for its inventive designs, fine materials, and precision craftsmanship. Their work was often retailed by top London shops and remains sought after by collectors today. For further information please see our makers and retailers page on George Betjemann & Sons.
