Description This Rosewood Writing Box with brass inlay dates to the early nineteenth century, circa 1830. The box is veneered in rosewood and finished with brass edging, with scrolling brass inlay to the lid and front framed by fine brass stringing. The sides retain flush mounted brass carrying handles. The interior is fitted with a leather writing slope with a double gold tooled border, brass stringing to the facing and a bramah lock. The upper section contains twin inkwells with brass lids, a central removable pen tray and a lidded compartment with a brass ball handle. Beneath each half of the slope are storage compartments. A concealed compartment is hidden within the upper section and is accessed by removing the right hand inkwell and depressing the internal sides, releasing the front panel to reveal two small drawers.
